We’re living in a world where it is easier than ever to build a business from the ground up with no more than a computer. It’s a great time to be a maker, and this holds particularly true for entrepreneurs looking to innovate in the sports space.

In the traditionally slow-to-adopt sports industry, we’re seeing the tides begin to turn — companies and sports organizations are actively seeking new ways to innovate. We can see this with the rise of sports technology specific VC funds, accelerators, co-working spaces, and pro teams building out entire “innovation” departments within their organizations.

One of the companies fueling a lot of this innovation and growth in the space is Sportradar. Their sports data API serves as the infrastructure for a number of different companies and side projects for sports tech enthusiasts. Our very own Starters Bot 🤖, built by the team at Stattleship, uses data pulled from Sportradar’s API to create automated Twitter graphics like this one. 👇

Today, Sportradar makes a further commitment to serve and empower young sports startups with the announcement of Acceleradar, “the Sports Industry’s First Free Data Plan”. Eligible participants will be given free access to Sportradar data for up to one year!

Benn Gurton, Head of Business Development for Sportradar, believes this program will help startups create meaningful applications within sports:

“Supporting the startup ecosystem has long been a core principle at Sportradar. We believe this is the perfect time to launch a freemium plan for sports data, and our hope is that this program will launch a number of companies and innovative applications for sports fans, teams, brands and other industry stakeholders,”

For makers using Sportradar’s treasure trove of sports data, there are countless use cases and you are confined only by your own imagination. If you’re currently using Sportradar’s data api to build something cool we would love to know about it, tell us about your startup or project in the comments below👇!
